Mission Support

The Mission's supported by Wesley UMC range from local community rebuilding, to regional efforts, and as far reaching as international spiritual and financial support.  The entire church has a desire for people to meet and have a relationship with Christ.  The support of missions and evangelism is evidence of that.

Souper Bowl
Written by Bonnie Kendall

Fifteen years ago, a Super Bowl Sunday prayer inspired a group of young people to do something more than celebrate a football game. Since 1993 more than $24 million has been raised for people in need. Every person in the congregation is asked to donate $1.00. Money collected is delivered to soup kitchens, food banks, or charities of Wesley's choice.

The Souper Bowl Blitz is an opportunity for youth to serve at area soup kitchens, food banks, homeless shelters and other charities in our community.  Youth are encouraged to volunteer for the Blitz and to help take collection during both Sunday services.

Sussex County Habitat for Humanity
Written by Bonnie Kendall

For over 25 years, Habitat for Humanity has helped lowincome families reach their dreams of a place to call home. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat constructs and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner-partner families. Habitat houses are sold to these families at no profit and financed with affordable, no-interest loans. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are used to build even more Habitat houses. In 2004, Sussex County Habitat for Humanity moved five families into homes.

Wesley supports financially and we have helped with the construction of one home in Georgetown.

If you are interested in volunteering at Concord Village in Seaford or participating in the Women’s Build contact the Habitat office.

The Sussex Pregnancy Care Center is a not for profit center dedicated to giving complete up-to-date and accurate information regarding pregnancy, sexual health and relationships. All of their services are free because everyone deserves access to truthful information.

Wesley has helped in the past by participating in the "World's Largest Baby Shower" collecting items for babies and expectant mothers. We also participated in the "Change For Life" program distributing baby bottles to be filled with lose change. Money collected was used towards the purchase of a sonogram machine. Diapers are always needed!

Volunteers are needed in many areas.

The Tanzania Africa Mission supporting the work of missionary Elizabeth Herr has come to an end.  The support lasted for the short time Beth was in Tanzania.  She traveled to the country as a member of a Youth Encounter Global Mission Team.  Beth has many stories to share, and was grateful to Wesley UMC for their support.  In the future Beth hopes to return to Tanzania for continued work and gospel sharing in the same region.
